If you are planning to go on a vacation this year and want to take your pet with you, you will have to get an online veterinary health certificate. The vet health certificate needed for international travel is also known as the USDA APHIS Form 7001.
If it is your first time traveling internationally with your pet and you have no idea how to get the vet certificate, you are about to get all the answers to your questions.
Find an Accredited Vet
The US Department of Agriculture checks the paperwork completed by the vet before issuing the health certificate, which is why it is important for the vet to be USDA accredited. So, you must make sure that the vet you are visiting is USDA accredited before getting the vet certificate from them. You can also get in touch with the nearest USDA Veterinary Services Office to confirm the accreditation status.
Get the Certificate Issued
The next step is to download the USDA APHIS Form 7001 and get your vet to sign it. Each airline has different requirements as to when the veterinary health certificate must be signed. Make sure that you are aware of the requirements and get the document signed within that time frame.
Send the Paperwork to USDA
Review your vet’s work to make sure that all the data is entered correctly, and then send the documents to USDA. You can send the paperwork to USDA via FedEx or take it in yourself, depending on what is easier for you. Once the documents are stamped, you will have your vet certificate ready and you can go on your trip with your pet.
